Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke

Dear Bookworms,

To sum it up in a word, this weeks book, Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke was enrapturing. I'm not gonna lie, I picked this book up based solely on the beautiful cover art. (I know, I know, don't judge a book by it's cover, but look at it, it's gorgeous!)

This novel is short at only 247 pages but man does it pack a big punch. The story is told from three alternating perspectives: Wink, simple farm girl with a large imagination; Poppy, popular beauty with a mean streak; and Midnight, handsome and tenderhearted. Midnight is in love with Poppy who toys with his heart like a cat with a string. Vowing to be rid of the toxic relationship when he moves next door to Wink, he finds himself drawn to Wink's simple yet quirky nature. The ease at which he is able to connect with her is refreshing. Playing games is Poppys specialty and she isn't letting go of Midnight without a fight. As the cover reads: A hero. A Villain. A Liar. Who's who? Without giving too much away, these three characters lives become entangled in a way that leaves readers minds twisted upside down.

This novel was really unlike anything that I've read. It was written in prose that was slightly whimsical; it's plot was delightfully sinister and yet hauntingly beautiful. I always enjoy a book with great twists and turns that leave me scrambling to piece things together. Everyone is not what they seem in this novel for sure but in a way, they are all of us. It was honest and relate-able and I can't recommend it enough. I breezed through it in a day and I am still left here thinking about the story and how beautifully it was written.

Anyone else read this book? What did you think?

XOXO,

Coco
